Legal Agreements You Make By Using the CCC |
University computing resources exist to complement the educational mission of the University and must be used appropriately. You have the obligation to ensure that you are utilizing University computing resources in accordance with University policy and applicable laws. BPM 53-02-96, the Policy for Use and Protection of Information Resources, is the official policy of Ut Tyler. All users of these facilities are governed by this policy and are assumed to have read and agreed to observe the policy. See below for a link to this location. If you have a question about whether a specific use of computing or networking resources is legal or appropriate, ask a lab assistant, the lab director, or send an email to itsupport@patriots.uttyler.edu and ask before you begin to use it for that purpose.

Highlights of Some Things You Need to Know
- You may not be paid, or otherwise profit, from the use of any University provided computing resource or from any output produced using it.
- You may not promote any commercial activity using University resources. Examples of inappropriate use are: advertisements, chain letters, community, church related, or social work (unless it is school sponsored.)
- Never use any University provided computing resource to do something illegal, threatening, or deliberately destructive - not even as a joke.
- You are the only person who can use a computing resource that the University has provided specifically for your use.
- If issued any passwords, do not give it/them to anyone. If you suspect that someone may have compromised your password, change it immediately.
- Ignorance is no excuse. Read the Computer Crimes Law.
- You cannot be exempt from the law because you are "just a student", or because you were "just playing around." If you are as student with a part-time job at the University, you may be disciplined as an employee and as a student, resulting in both professional and educational consequences.
