How do I access the my Patriot Email account?

Open a browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and navigate to the UT Tyler Homepage at www.uttyler.edu.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Student Email icon.

How do I log into Patriot Email?

Before accessing your email, you must first activate your Patriots account here.

Your Username should be in the following format: first initial and last name

Your Password should be in the following format: YYYYMMDD

EXAMPLE Name - John Doe Birthdate - January 17, 1986

Username - jdoe Password - 19860117

 

***ATTENTION*** Due to duplicate Usernames some accounts may have a number after the Username similar to what you might see on Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, etc.

I was able to log into my email account before, but now I am unable to login.

The new Patriot student email accounts have time limits on the password. The Patriot email system will let the student know that the password will expire for two weeks before the password actually expires. To reset your Patriot student email account password, please use the link found in the navigation bar on the left side of Patriot student email home page titled "change your password." Be sure to put in a new password of at least 8 letters or numbers or a combination of 8 letters and numbers.

I forgot my username. What should I do?

I forgot my password. What can I do to get another?

You have two options.  Either come by BUS 101 with your student ID and talk to one of the lab assistants, or email the Black Board administrator.  If you choose to email the Black Board administrator, then you will need to include your full name, date of birth (YYYYMMDD), Student ID#, and Patriot username.

I can not log into my email account. What is wrong?

Make sure that you are using the correct username and password format.

If you are a new student at UT Tyler and have never used UT Tyler Student Email, you should use your First Initial and Last Name (as one word) as your user name and your 8-digit birthday as your password to log on.

Example:
George R. Jetson,
Birthdate: January 18, 3078
Username: gjetson
Password: 30780118

When I try to activate my account I get an error message stating that either my password does not meet the required specifications or is not unique. What must I do?

You will receive this type of error message if your new password is not at least eight characters, numbers, or a combination of eight letters and numbers. Resetting your account's password to your date of birth in the format of YYYYMMDD will not be an option.

You will receive this type of error message if your new password is not at least eight characters, numbers, or a combination of letters and numbers. You will also receive this error message if you try to change your password to one of your last three passwords that you have previously used for that account. Hence, resetting your account's password to your date of birth in the format of YYYYMMDD will not be an option. You will also receive this message if you try to change your password more than one time in a twenty-four hour period.

If I have been locked out of my account, how long do I have to wait before I can log in again?

You will have a sixty-minute delay before you will be able to log into your account again.

BASIC EMAIL OPERATIONS

 

How do I check my email account?
(keyword: receive mail, check email, get mail)

When you first log into Patriot Email , the display is automatically set to your INBOX, and you automatically receive mail.

After browsing, navigating, or just having the Patriot Email window open, you can check for new email messages.

Look on the Tool Bar above the panel containing your messages.
Click on the icon which looks like two letters (beside the magnifying glass icon). If you hold the mouse point over the button, it will read "Check for new messages".
Your Inbox will load any new messages that arrive.

How do I permanently delete unwanted email?

Click on the icon for the Deleted Items folder.

Look at the menu bar for two icons that are identical to the Deleted Items folder (they look like trash cans with a green triangle). The first one allows you to permanently delete the email in the Deleted Items folder.

Click on it and you will get a message "Are you sure you want to permanently delete all of the items and sub-folders in the Deleted Items folder.

Click OK.

How do I create a message?

After you Log In, look at the tool bar along the top of the page for the button labeled NEW. (It should be in the middle of the tool bar, with a button labeled LOG OFF to the extreme right.) Clicking this should bring up a popup window with a form for a new message.

Fill out the form as you would for any web email system.

When done, select SEND from the tool bar on the popup window to send the email message.

How do I reply to an email message ?

After you Log In, click on the email you want to reply:

To reply to the sender of a message:

Click Reply (the button is located at the tool bar on the top of the web page)
Notice that the "TO" text box is already addressed to the sender of the original message.
The text of the original message is copied into the message body.
Type your reply within or above the sender's original message.

To reply to the sender and all other recipients of a message:

When you click "REPLY TO ALL", the "TO" and "CC" text boxes are already addressed to the sender, as well as every other recipient of the original message.
The text of the original message is copied into the message body.
Type your reply within or above the sender's original message.

How do I forward a message?

After you Log In, click on the email you want to forward. Look at the tool bar along the top of the page for the button labeled FORWARD, click on the forward button.

Clicking this should bring up a popup window with a form for a new message.

Fill out the form as you would for any web email system.

When done, select SEND from the tool bar on the popup window to send the email message.

How do I send an attachment / add an attachment to a email?

Once you are logged in, click NEW to create a new email.
Clicking this should bring up a popup window with a form for a new message.
Fill out the form as you would for any web email system.

To send add an attachment to the email, click Add Attachment on the toolbar
In the Attachments dialog box, type the path to the file under Choose a file to attach, or click Browse to locate the file.
Click Attach. The file will appear under Current file attachments.
The files you selected are displayed in the heading, next to Attachments.

TROUBLESHOOTING EMAIL PROBLEMS

 

I get a message that my Patriot Email account is full, but when I look at my messages in the Inbox, I either have none or just a few. What is wrong?

Each account on the Patriot Email server has a specific amount of space for messages, attachments, etc. If that amount is exceeded, the account sends a message to the user that it can not accept any more.

Make sure your other folders are also empty (Outbox, Send Items, Drafts, Junk Email, Deleted Items).

NOTE: Even though you remove email from your inbox, it is still present in the Deleted Items folder.
